KOKODA CHECKLIST

Food

Clothing Checklist ( keep it to a minimum)

The walking conditions during the day are tropical heat and humidity, although much of the walking is under jungle canopy. The nights can be cold as we will be at altitude similar to Mt Kosiuszko. Protection from the sun during the day is important (cap and neck sweat towel). Most walkers are soaked with sweat all day so don’t think of keeping dry. Thick socks and superior boots are essential as your feet will need to be your greatest asset. A waterproof poncho is necessary to keep off the frequent rain. At night you will need to keep warm and dry so thermal underwear and spare socks and sandals/runners are ideal. Keep any spare clothing wrapped in plastic bags inside a plastic liner inside your pack.

  • One rimmed hat or peak cap (wide brimmed hats get in the way)
  • One waterproof poncho
  • Two long sleeve shirts
  • Two pair of light long pants
  • One pair of long thermal underwear
  • Two pair of socks
  • Two sets of underwear
  • One pair of trekking boots (see below)
  • One pair of joggers/sandals (for the end of the day)
  • One sweat rag
  • One towel (the pack towels like a big wettex cloth you can purchase from camping/disposal stores are excellent.)
  • One pair of lycra gym shorts (prevents chafing)
  • One Sarong (for women)
